Tatiana's Book Corner Newsletter - April 6th

🐰Bunny Rabbits and More🐰

Sometime in October, I was on my phone playing games. It is not an unusual situation. I love games on my phone. In this case, I decided to open up a home decorating app that I had closed a year before. I found out that if I played either a zombie battle game or a mythical creatures battle game, I could get points for more decorating.

I started with the zombies. After a week, I was having nightmares. So I tried the mythical creature/castle building game. I haven't decorated houses on my phone in five months. It is a new experience having this kind of online community of nuts playing together.

I have friends online from every part of the globe, who do not know me by my name, but by one of my aliases. I now have six castles in a lovely alliance. The first in command is from Chile. The second is from Australia. The third lives a couple of hours away. There is a Discord for my alliance. Life is shared in bits and pieces under a gentle veil.

I started the game typing name options into ChatGPT and adopting one of the necessary violent titles for that name. Everyone was a destroyer. It isn't really me. About a month ago, I decided I had enough of the name. I became a legion of bunnies. And it is the best thing ever.

There are now five fluffy bunnies and their queen, fighting for a kingdom online, surrounded by people from all over. It is spring. Yesterday was bunny day. I think that the characteristic that most impresses me in the game is the peaceful nature of it.

It was meant to be a battle game. I am sure the designers had this in mind. It opened to the world and the world changed it. Of course, you always have the nuts. But for the most part, people created diplomatic channels and developed rules to maintain peace, between each other, between alliances, between kingdoms.

Even the most warlike events have become a conversation of - how can we all get as many points together and not fight. War is too much loss. In one case, I saw a young man enter an alliance predominantly Russian. He just said, I am Ukranian. No politics? And a chorus responded, welcome friend, no politics.

I can't help but think what went wrong in the real world. In an imaginary world every day people understand diplomacy and peace. I think most people understand this in the real world too. We create structures and institutions driven by war.

For now, I keep believing in my bunny rabbits, and kind of like the idea of being known in the world as Fluffy, Bun Bun or simply Bunny. In a world of war, it is nice to be a bunny.

As soon as I finish this newsletter, I will begin sending out the books to the winners. It has been a crazy day, so I might end up sending tomorrow, but you should be getting them by the end of the week.

🌷May 2026 Giveaway🌷

The Antiquarian's Object of Desire (Love's Academic) - I love India Holton. She is the balm that I need in these turbulent times. I should be reading more, but I return to her, because she is funny, and sweet, and weird. This is her newest book. It comes out at the end of April and it is definitely the most anticipated book for the year. Life is better because of her books. A warm blanket in a stormy night.

Dungeon Crawler Carl - I am late to the game. I know that. Princess Donut only now has come to my attention. My son has loved them. Andy is reading it now and loving it. I am next.

The Midnight Carousel: A Novel - Night Circus meets Water for Elephants? What isn't there to love about the concept. It is also a brand new books and yay! I am excited.

The Astral Library (Deluxe Limited Edition): A Novel - I love Kate Quinn. The book is really, really beautiful. Like, what else could one possibly desire. Really.

This Book Made Me Think of You - A book about books, loving books, and enduring love. I am in.

The Poet Empress - This book just looks awesome, even though it has the shortest description ever. We will just have to see.

The rest are my books and I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.

🌹The Garden 🌹 Last year, I began my garden in January and February. I filled my bathroom and desk with baby plants ready to be put into the ground the moment the weather got warmer. That was 2025. 2026 has been a little different. Only yesterday did I begin the first efforts to create a garden. Hopefully, I will have some seeds planted by the end of the week. It is such a different feeling from last year. I have dragged my feet to put my hands into the dirt. It isn't only that my imagination...

🌸And now, Spring🌸 I am not a fan of Winter. Cold is not my friend. I know that a warm cup of tea, a blanket and a good book are supposed to solve all of the Winter problems, but to me, it is just not enough. So, when Spring comes, it is a great celebration. Spring means that I am already late thinking about my garden. Last year, I was growing things from seed all over my desk and preparing for planting season. This year, I am behind. Two days ago, I saw a raccoon happily enjoying the compost...

🌸Not Quite Spring🌸 I am back home this week. It was lovely to spend time in Seattle with my son's pets, and I am very happy to be back with Andy and the two kitties. I arrived to a very warm Asheville. The weather feels like spring is here, but it is early. Even the peach trees are beginning to bloom. It is a bit disconcerning. The reality is that it will get cold again, freeze the blooms, and the bears will have no peaches. I would mention us having peaches, but the bears have never left us...
